The Municipal District includes the hamlets of Little Smoky, Ridgevalley, DeBolt, Landry Heights and Grovedale. Our borders encompass the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and the towns of Fox Creek, Grande Cache and Valleyview, while Grande Prairie is our neighbour to the west. Serviced by Highways 40, 43 and 49, railways and a major airport in Grande Prairie, transportation is convenient and efficient. Agriculture, forestry, oil and gas, coal and tourism are all mainstays of both the local and provincial economy.
Traverse City is located in portions of both Grand Traverse County and Leelanau County within Northern Lower Michigan. Traverse City is situated on the shores of picturesque East Grand Traverse Bay and West Grand Traverse Bay, which both flow into Lake Michigan. While Traverse City`s official population is 14,572, and a daytime population of more than twice the official population, it is the hub of a Micropolitan Statistical Area of 143,372. In 2010 the United States Congress dedicated Traverse City as "A Coast Guard City" for its commitment and support to local Air Station Traverse City, its Coast Guard members and families. As part of this dedication, the City of Traverse City has formed a Coast Guard City Committee to build a greater awareness of the Coast Guard`s importance in our community. Traverse City has been further recognized for its incredible sense of place by publications including The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Bicycling Magazine, Fodors, AOL Travel News, Forbes Magazine, Money Magazine, Good Morning America, National Geographic and many others. Gregg County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 121,730. Its county seat is Longview. The county is named after John Gregg, a Confederate general killed in action during the American Civil War. Gregg County is part of the Longview, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the Longview–Marshall, TX combined statistical area. Discovery of oil near Kilgore, Texas in October 1920 was the beginning of an oil boom that attracted workers to the county and expanded the population by more than 500% by 1940, according to the census. By that time, the economy had stabilized but the East Texas Oil Field, extending in five counties, has continued to be important to the county and region`s economy.
