About the Person
As the firm’s Vice President and People Officer, Beth A. Friel leads Nelson Brown’s strategic focus on its people. A seasoned human resources executive with deep expertise in the insurance industry, Beth serves as a member of the firm’s senior executive team. Beth leads the firm’s human resources, talent acquisition and development, compensation and employee benefits, and employee communications functions. She works to strengthen and deepen the firm’s culture by assessing the firm’s talent needs, overseeing the recruitment of attorneys and staff, coordinating training and development, and working with leaders across the firm to establish individual development plans for all staff. Beth has a deep and varied background in the insurance industry. Most recently, she served as Director, Employee Relations for Cigna. In this role, she was responsible for implementing the employee relations’ strategic vision for approximately 35,000 employees worldwide. Her career as a human resources executive started at Harleysville Insurance, where she served as Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Human Resources. Beth’s interest in talent acquisition and employee relations began while working as an attorney at a northeast law firm, where she focused her practice on employment law. Following law school, Beth served as a clerk for The Honorable Bruce W. Kauffman. Beth previously served as Director of Employee Relations at Cigna, as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Harleysville Insurance and as Attorney at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads, LLP. Beth earned Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin & Marshall College in 1995 and JD in Law from Temple University School of Law in 2000.
