The University of Texas at San Antonio is an emerging Tier One research institution specializing in health, energy, security, sustainability, and human and social development. The San Diego Community College District is the second-largest community college district in California and the sixth largest in the nation, providing credit and noncredit instruction to students through its associate degree, certificate, and general programs. The SDCCD serves approximately 100,000 students annually through three, two-year colleges and seven Continuing Education campuses. The three colleges, San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, and San Diego Miramar College, offer associate degrees and certificates in occupational programs that prepare students for entry-level jobs, and arts and sciences programs that transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Continuing Education`s Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) also offers classes leading to associate degrees and certificates. The SDCCD is governed by its five-member, locally elected Board of Trustees and three student members serving on a rotating basis. Shared governance activities involve faculty, students and staff in the development of solutions to key policy and budget issues. The five trustees are elected in even-numbered years to four-year terms by the voters of San Diego. The Chancellor, the District`s chief executive officer, is responsible for carrying out the policies approved by the Board of Trustees.
Founded in 1954 by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Holy Family University is a comprehensive four-year university based in Philadelphia. About half of the University`s 3,500 students are enrolled on a full- or part-time basis in the traditional undergraduate program. The remaining students are adults enrolled in graduate programs or accelerated degree programs designed for working adults. More than 45 degree programs are available from four schools: Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education, and Nursing & Allied Health Professions. Continuing education and accelerated degree programs are offered by the Division of Extended Learning. The University is based at the Northeast Philadelphia Campus, which serves as home of the traditional undergraduate program and offers courses in the graduate program. The Northeast Philadelphia Campus also offers student housing for full-time undergraduates. Holy Family — Newtown is located in Newtown Township, Bucks County, and offers an undergraduate program in education, graduate programs, and select courses in the accelerated programs. Specially designed for adult students, Holy Family — Woodhaven in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, serves as home to the Division of Extended Learning and its continuing education and accelerated degree programs. The University`s accelerated MBA also is available in South Philadelphia at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes`) Church, located at Columbus Avenue and Christian Street.
